"Fasting" is not just abstaining from food, it is also abstaining from sensual pleasures, anger, greed, and arrogance. It is the purification of the mind and body.


1. *Fasting* is not merely giving up food and drink; it is also giving up bad thoughts and deeds. One should fast with the intention of purifying the body and mind, not just to satisfy hunger.


2. When one fasts, the body gets a chance to cleanse itself. Fasting for one day purifies the blood and removes toxins from the body, making the mind calm and the body light.


3. The benefit of fasting is that it gives the body rest and allows the digestive system to recover. Long fasting can also cleanse the nerves and rejuvenate the body. One feels hunger; the taste of food becomes pleasant and every particle of the body feels refreshed. Ayurveda says fasting is essential for health.


4. *Gulak* (a digestive disorder) and pepper should be taken with ghee.


5. The fruit of _Indravajra_ should be taken in a powdered form mixed with water after meals. One‑sixth part of the fruit powder should be taken.


6. *Ajmod* (celery seeds) gives warmth to the stomach, aids digestion, and makes the stomach fire gentle. It also helps with acid reflux (acidic bile) and reduces heat in the body.
